Departed Jun. 8, 2008 and resided in Clinton, CT/Old Lyme, CT.

Luella Austin Champion, 79, of Clinton, wife of the late Lawrence "Skip" Champion passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8th at home. Born in Lynbrook, NY, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Mildred (Whitehead) Austin.

Luella was a long time resident of Clinton, a member of United Methodist Church in Clinton, worked for town highway department, the school system, and Chesebrough Ponds in Clinton. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The Society of Mayflower Descendants. Luella was an avid bingo player who enjoyed attending bingo games across the shoreline, was an avid history buff and loved arts and crafts.

She leaves behind a son, Andrew Champion and his wife, Kimberly of Old Lyme; a step-son, Scott Champion and his wife, Terri of MA; a step-daughter, Kelly Champion of Hartford; two sisters, Norma A. Olsen of Westbrook and June E. Wilcox and her husband, Stedman of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Jean Austin of Portland and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Millard B. Austin, Jr. and Lt. Col. James H. Austin.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 16th at 1:00 pm in East Cemetery, Hillside Avenue, Cromwell with the Rev. Martin Gibbs officiating.
